Position Description

Damage Control Leaders (DCL’s) hold the top leadership positions at the MSC Training Centers, and on the Afloat Training Teams; reporting to either the CIVMAR Workforce Development Division (N16), or the Operations Department (N3). They supervise all subordinate damage control personnel in their respective areas; and may be required to provide oversight for other local government employees.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: fleet readiness and training oversight; program or schoolhouse management; planning and execution of exercises and inspections; scheduling and distribution of resources; curriculum and doctrine development; monitoring contractor performance; leading inspections, tests, and drills; assisting or leading investigations; supervising field events; teaching; providing technical advice; and safety oversight. Candidates selected required to sail 30-45 days on annual basis during high relief request seasons and mission contingencies. When assigned to a ship, DCL comes under the administrative supervision of the ship’s Master. Everything in this Position Description is considered to be an essential function of this position. Performs all other duties as assigned.
